The Bald Truth Revealed – 8 Country Stars Who Hide Hair Loss Behind Their Cowboy Hats

Last Updated on August 20, 2023 by Robert Price

At one point I tried to become a country songwriter. That didn’t exactly work out. I failed actually. But I’m familiar with most of the top stars in the genre, the Chesney’s, the Bryan’s, the Bentley’s, and so on. I’m also somewhat obsessed with balding, so obviously I’m the guy to tell you who’s hiding bald spots or thinning hair behind their cowboy hats. Ready? Alight, let’s get along my little doggies.

1. Kenny Chesney

It's no secret that Kenny is a bald man. He looks good too; he doesn't need to hide behind that damn hat all the time in my humble opinion.

2. Jason Aldean

Just some fairly mild thinning for Jason. Type III on the Norwood Scale would be my assessment. Though I have seen it look worse than this in other pics, but he doesn't take his hat off very often.

3. Cole Swindell

Only in his early 30s, Cole is perhaps the baldest country crooner on my list. He rarely takes off his hat, perhaps for good reason. That was mean, I apologize. A good buzzing could be the ticket.

Only in his early 30s, Cole is perhaps the baldest country crooner on my list. He rarely takes off his hat which commemorates his al mama mater, Georgia Southern University. Still a good-looking and talented dude. A good buzzing could be the ticket, or he could just keep truckin’ with the ball cap.

4. Zac Brown

Zac Brown, bald and bearded, great musician, so-so songwriter. That's just the opinion of this failed country songwriter. I wasn't from the south, or religious, and I didn't know how to network. Those are my excuses.

Zac Brown, bald and bearded. Great combo, always. Zac’s an amazing musician and so-so songwriter. That’s just the opinion of this failed country songwriter. I wasn’t from the south, or religious, and I didn’t know how to network. Those are my excuses. Zac seems cool. I think everyone knows a bald dude who looks like this.

5. Garth Brooks

Garth has been receding since he first burst onto the country scene in the late 80s. Incredible performer and singer. Friends in Low Places is the best country party song ever. Period.

Tim McGraw, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith & More!

So yeah, I’m tired of posting pictures, but all these guys show signs of male pattern baldness, based on the few pics I’ve seen of them not wearing caps. Nothing horrible, probably about average for their respective ages. They may even have a bit less hair loss than the average 50-something dude. I know McGraw isn’t quite 50 yet, and he’ll take off his cap for film roles and award shows on occasion. Norwood type 3 with some mild thinning for McGraw, similar to Aldean — that’d be my assessment.

I believe Eddie Montgomery of Montgomery Gentry is also bald. Not sure if they’re still around, though. Man they had some horrible songs back in the day. What do ya think about that? I think that song sucks! His little bro John Michael is also bald (and irrelevant). Good singer though. See his mugshot below, it’s a good one!

John Michael Montgomery

I swear by the moon and the stars and the sky, John is bald. Norwood 5 I’d say. I liked that song, I Swear, especially the other version that that biracial boy band did. All 4 one, right? With a 4. Brings me back in time, to my junior high dances, not dancing, frustration, relentless hormones, and acne, lots of fricking acne.

And of course there’s Dwight Yoakam, another massive talent. I’ve enjoyed many of his movies too.

Lee Brice

I’m pretty sure Lee Brice had a hair transplant. So he’s not hiding his hair loss anymore! He debuted his new locks on The Voice if I’m not mistaken.  In previous music videos and appearances, on the rare occasions when he removed the cap, he showed the classic “island” variety of balding, a la Richard Nixon, Judd Law, Sting, Johnny Knoxville, etc. His transplant looked great from what I saw, so good for him!

Still Questionable

Dierks Bentley’s hairline has vexed me for years. Okay I’m exaggerating. At times it looks great, but usually, it looks like it’s receding just a tad.

Update – this list is a little old now…

Okay, a lot old.

And Dierks is definitely receding. But he still looks terrific for his age!

Also, any male country who regularly wears a hat could possibly be bald or balding. The cowboy hats aren’t really en vogue anymore from what I’ve gathered. If they’re wearing one, there’s a good chance they’re hiding something. I’m sure I’m missing some young male singers who sport cowboy hats — but yeah, if they wear a hat, there’s a good chance they’re losing their hair. Brad Paisley is an exception and has an excellent head of hair, so he really should ditch that stupid cap!

2023 Addition – Luke Combs

I’m not going to update this list thoroughly because nobody really needs such an update. But I will add Luke Combs to the list. I think he’s an amazing ambassador for bald and chubby dudes everywhere who can sing!

Also, I don’t follow country music anymore.

Clearly.

I did enjoy Luke’s cover of “Fast Car” though.

And I know he wears ball caps (or hunting caps or whatever). The same principle applies.

Yes, Blake Shelton Still Appears to Have All His Hair

I’m sure you were wondering about your beloved Blake. Granted, he appears to show a mature hairline, not a straight-across juvenile hairline, like what’s that guy’s name has….Chris Young. Chris Young likely has the same hairline now that he had when he was 10-years-old. That’s pretty unusual for a 30-something Caucasian man, and it’s probable he’ll keep that hairline for the rest of his life. Blake could still go bald, ladies. A man has roughly a 40% chance of balding in his 40s. Blake is 40. The odds will increase to at least 50% when he hits the big 50, so who knows what the future holds.

Balding Country Singers – Closing Thoughts

The country singer is one of 19 best ways you can approach hair loss — and it’s a pretty awesome approach, I must say!

If you’re going bald, wearing a hat will not only conceal the problem, it will give your face a frame — and that’s significant, especially if you’re a pasty or unusual looking fellow.

On the other hand, many men look good bald.

And who knows, you could be one of those lucky men!

Did I miss any balding country stars in my list? Which one of these balding guys looks best without a hat? Do you think any of them should consider treating their hair loss with transplant, minoxidil, or Propecia?
